The presidential
and the national assembly elections holding on February 14,
2015.
A statement released by the commission’s secretary Mrs
Augusta Ogakwu, at the end of a four-day retreat in Kaduna On Friday, the
commission said the state governorship and House of Assemblies
elections would be held on February 28.
He also announced that the Ekiti State governorship
election will hold on 21st of June 2014, while the Osun State governorship
Election is scheduled to hold on 9th August, 2014.
The three-paragraph statement read: “After the deliberations
at the four-day retreat held in the Assa Pyramid Hotel, Kaduna from January
21 to 24, 2014, the commission has scheduled the presidential and
National assembly elections for February 14, 2015 and the governorship and
state houses of assembly elections for February 28, 2015″.
On the side-line of the commission’s retreat, the Cross
River State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mike Igini, told Channels
Television that the commission would soon commence a nationwide registration of
voters in preparatory for the 2015 elections.
He said the exercise would afford eligible voters the
opportunity to register while those with temporary voters’ card would be issued
a permanent computerised card during the exercise.
He said that the decision to computerise the voters’ card
was in line with the commission’s plans to checkmate multiple voting and ballot
box snatching during elections.
“We appealed to all stakeholders in the election process
including politicians to join hands with the commission towards conducting a
credible poll next year,” he said.
Political parties campaign for the Presidential and National
Assembly elections will begin on November 16 2014 while that of the
Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will start on November 30.
Governorship elections will hold in all states except,
Anambra, Bayelsa, Kogi, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun States. Governors in these
states have not completed their term in office.
