Nigeria's ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has dragged the five
rebel governors who defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC,
before an Abuja High Court. The PDP is asking the court to declare seats of the
five rebel governors vacant. The PDP is also seeking an order of the high
court, mandating/directing the state Houses of Assembly of Adamawa, Rivers,
Sokoto, Kano and Kwara, to forthwith, commence impeachment proceedings.
The PDP is pitching its demand on Sections 177 (c), 221 and 222 (c) of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. INEC as well as the five rebel
Governors have been joined as defendants in the suit.
The five rebel governors are Rotimi Amaechi of
Rivers, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of
Kano, Murtala Nyakoof
Adamawa State, Alhaji Magatakarda Wamakko of
Sokoto, and Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed of
Kwara State.
