Nigeria Politics: PDP, drags the five rebel governors to Court

Nigeria's ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has dragged the five rebel governors who defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC, before an Abuja High Court. The PDP is asking the court to declare seats of the five rebel governors vacant. The PDP is also seeking an order of the high court, mandating/directing the state Houses of Assembly of Adamawa, Rivers, Sokoto, Kano and Kwara, to forthwith, commence impeachment proceedings.

The PDP is pitching its demand on Sections 177 (c), 221 and 222 (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. INEC as well as the five rebel Governors have been joined as defendants in the suit.

The five rebel governors are Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Murtala Nyakoof Adamawa State, Alhaji Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto, and Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed of Kwara State.
